Plant-Based Cat Litter

Process: Soybean residue and other raw materials need to be extruded and dehydrated first to reduce initial moisture content. Sterilization may also be required.

Equipment: Screw press dehydrator, sterilization equipment.

Process: Crush the dehydrated raw material blocks, then fully stir them with starch-based binders, deodorants, etc., in a mixer according to proportions.

Equipment: Crusher, high-speed mixer.

Process: This is the core of tofu cat litter molding. Feed the mixture into a twin-screw extruder and extrude it through die holes under high temperature and pressure. At the moment of extrusion, the pressure drops sharply, and the moisture in the material vaporizes rapidly, causing the material to puff and form porous, lightweight strips. The cross-sectional shape (e.g., cylindrical, long strip) can be changed by replacing the die.

Equipment: Twin-screw extrusion puffing machine (most commonly used), die.

Process: The continuous long strips extruded are cut into granules of uniform length (e.g., 1-3cm) by high-speed rotating cutters at the outlet.

Equipment: Rotating cutter machine.

Process: The wet granules after cutting still have high moisture content and must be dried slowly at low temperature in a dryer (to avoid coking) to completely remove moisture, ensuring the product is crisp and not prone to mold. Cooling is also required afterward.

Equipment: Mesh belt dryer (commonly used), cooling machine.

Process: Remove crumbs and powder generated during drying, then perform automatic metering and packaging. Since tofu cat litter is fragile, the packaging usually emphasizes moisture resistance and sealing (e.g., using aluminum film bags).

Equipment: Vibrating sieve, automatic packaging machine (with dust suction nozzle).
