Application and necessity of high-purity nano montmorillonite in feed
Montmorillonite is a natural layered silicate nanomaterial, with a thickness of only 1 nm per layer and small particles. Each gram of powder can cover a digestive tract surface the size of a basketball court, which can enhance the mucosal barrier function; Montmorillonite itself has strong adsorption capacity and can effectively remove various harmful fungal toxins from feed. Therefore, montmorillonite is widely used as a mold remover.

Due to its unique water absorption, high dispersibility, suspension, thixotropy, lubricity, and adsorption properties, montmorillonite can improve the palatability and looseness of feed, delay the speed of feed passing through the digestive tract, increase the surface area of nutrient reactions, and also increase the surface area of contact between nutrients and digestive mucosa, allowing nutrients to be absorbed more fully and thus improving feed utilization efficiency. Second, it can reduce the moisture in poultry feces, keep the fence dry, and reduce the incidence rate.
Based on the cation exchange capacity of montmorillonite and the electronegativity of non-uniform charge distribution, polar hydration films can be formed between the layers of montmorillonite crystals, and viruses and bacteria also have excellent properties. The two are combined through H-O-H van der Waals force rather than chemical bonds, and absorb viruses, bacteria and their produced toxins from the digestive tract into the mineral layers, with strong fixation and inhibition effects. The adsorbed fungal toxins and bacterial toxins are excreted with feces, reducing the absorption of these toxins by the intestine and avoiding harm to animals. A large amount of dispersion in the digestive tract makes montmorillonite form gel, thus enhancing the coverage and protection. And by binding with mucin glycoproteins, it repairs and enhances the mucosal barrier's defense function against attacking factors from both qualitative and quantitative aspects.
Animal experiments and other studies have confirmed that montmorillonite contains various biologically functional constant elements, trace elements, and bioactive substances necessary for the growth and development of animals such as livestock and poultry. These elements can supplement the nutrients needed by animals and are also components of biologically active substances such as enzymes and hormones. They can cause significant changes in the activity or immune response of biological enzymes and hormones, and exist in the form of exchangeable ions and soluble salts, which are easily absorbed and utilized by animals.
